Changing Lives One Smile At A Time

Teen Invisalign

How It Works

The process of receiving Invisalign for a teenager is a bit different than with traditional metal braces. This process actually starts through the measurement of their mouth, using precision instruments. All of this information is then incorporated into their actual treatment plan. This is a highly individual process. The reason that it is unique for each individual is that the goal is creating aligners that fit the teeth like a glove.

Periodically, typically every two weeks, your teenager will be coming in to have their clear aligners swapped out for a new set so that their teeth are continually being adjusted according to their individual treatment plan. This process will continue until the treatment is complete, at which time your teenager will be able to fully appreciate their new smile.

But before that even happens, we will provide them with a 3D "sneak preview" of how their teeth and smile will appear after their treatment is complete. We find that this makes it easier on them as they deal with this somewhat lengthy treatment process. It gives them the peace of mind needed to go forward all the way with their treatment until completion.

How long does the Invisalign treatment process take?

There really is no one answer for every individual patient. Some kinds of problems simply take a bit longer to correct than other types of problems. Ultimately, the answer as to how long the treatment will take can be determined at the initial Invisalign consultation. Another factor to consider is that patient compliance is very important when being treated with Invisalign. That is why it is so important that your teenager wear there aligners for the required 22 hours daily so that there is no additional treatment time required.

Most patients find that their Invisalign treatment is completed in about the same length of time that it takes for traditional braces to work. And, of course, the treatment will be far more comfortable and discreet.

What if they lose an aligner?

Accidents will happen, even with Invisalign. If your teenager should lose one of their aligners, simply contact us right away for a replacement. Do not hesitate because if too much time is lost, an additional exam will be required.

Are there any food restrictions with Invisalign?

One of the main advantages to undergoing treatment with Invisalign is that there are absolutely no food restrictions. Unlike traditional metal braces, your teen will not have to avoid sticky or crunchy foods. Whenever they need to eat, they can simply remove their aligners to do so. The same for brushing and flossing their teeth. This makes Invisalign an incredibly convenient treatment for your teenager.

How much does Invisalign for Teens cost?

There is no single answer to this question, since the cost varies widely among patients. For example, the longer the treatment, the more trays will be needed.

Most patients find that Invisalign costs around the same as conventional braces. Considering all of the wide-ranging benefits that your teen will receive, Invisalign makes a great value in most cases.

The Benefits of Invisalign

• Virtually invisible treatment

• Aligners are conveniently removable to eat or clean the teeth

• No food restrictions

In addition to all of its other benefits, Invisalign offers the wearer the ability to eat or drink anything that they like, as long as they remove their aligners before hand. Compare this with having to wear traditional braces where you cannot eat anything that is hard or sticky, since it could stick to the metal wires and brackets or damage the braces. So this rules out chewy and crunchy foods like pizza crust, as well as hard candies.

While people are willing to forgo their favorite foods and snacks for a short time, getting your teeth straightened with traditional braces means giving up these foods for quite some time. Getting Invisalign means that this type of enjoyment is available.

Of course, your teen's aligners can be damaged by things like hard and crunchy food, but they just need to remember to remove them before they eat. And since patient compliance is very important with Invisalign, they must promptly replace them so that they are wearing their aligners for the required 22 hours daily. This helps ensure that their treatment time remains as short as possible.

Wearing Invisalign aligners is also incredibly important for teenage athletes, although they should be wearing a mouth guard for additional protection when playing sports.

One additional benefit of Invisalign is that the virtual invisibility of the treatment means that your teenager can have photos taken without being embarrassed or self-conscious about their appearance. So if they need to have pictures taken for prom or high school graduation, there is no problem.
